My challenge for the month among other things is to wake up at 5:30am in order to have an hour of power before going on with the responsibilities of the day. This morning my challenge was greater than that. I woke up and the first thing that came to mind was my court hearing later on the day for an unfair traffic ticket I got a few months before. Although it is a non-life threatening challenge, I was very upset because I know in my heart I did not deserve it.
Praying about my challenge and wondering what the lesson might be, I began my ride to downtown a couple hours earlier and noticed a man in the street well over 70 or at least looked that old - picking up crates of fruits and vegetables to sell at a nearby stand. He looked frail and tired.
A couple blocks down as I was turning into my next street I caught a glimpse at another two men digging through the trash looking for food. I felt so moved by this moment that I got to witness that I had to turn around and take a picture so that I would never forget. This reminded me of how little my challenges were compared to that of the two men and the old man.
Although we are all faced with daily challenges that sometimes we would rather not face, it is good to keep in perspective that: "We must move beyond mourning and feeling sorry for ourselves because of the challenges we are dealing with. We must go forward to meet the problem with boldness, trusting God to give us strength and courage to put the right words in our mouths and love and forgiveness in our hearts!" (J. Early)
